The meeting of 8 French companies with national operator TNB [fr]

The 2nd Edition of the Energy Efficiency, Smart Grid & Electricity Symposium was held in Kuala Lumpur from 23rd to 25th March 2015. This year, the delegation consisted of 8 SMEs and subsidiaries of large companies in the French Energy sector.

The success of the event was due to the close cooperation between Business France Malaysia (Trade Commission of the Embassy of France) and the TNB team, as well as the presence of French industry leader EDF, who were present with their insights and expertise in the various areas.

On Monday night, the French companies attended a welcome seminar, where a presentation on the Malaysian business climate was delivered by Business France along with an introduction by the Energy Commission on energy efficiency projects. The EDF Lab Singapore also shared their experiences and involvement in the ongoing Smart City development projects. The preparatory session concluded with a French networking dinner.

The program for the 24th of March was focused on bilateral French-Malaysian trade and the presentation on the latest French innovations and technologies. The symposium was officiated by His Excellency Mr. Christophe Penot, the Ambassador of France, and Datuk Ir. Mohd Aminuddin Bin Mohd Amin, Senior Manager of the Corporate Affairs & Communications department. Following that, speakers from TNB and EDF outlined their respective international development projects and trends in the region. The rest of the morning session was dedicated to the presentation of the French participants’ products and services.

The afternoon session and networking lunch were dedicated to business matching sessions between the French participants and TNB divisions. The event was then successfully closed with a Teh Tarik session, where French participants were able to continue with earlier discussions informally while discovering a local traditional practice.

On the whole, the two days confirmed the attraction of the French offer in Malaysia as lead by the example of EDF, and enabled the establishing of relevant contacts with the local key actors in the market.

The participants can now utilize these insights on the practices, structures and key local players to generate new business opportunities.
