Schengen visa : Short stay visa from 1 to 90 days

  • You must apply at the Embassy of France in person.
  • You may apply for a visa at the French consulate if:

France is your only destination OR
France is your main destination: your trip includes several Schengen states and France will be the country where you are going to spend most of the time of your trip OR
France is the country of your first entry into the Schengen area AND the duration of your stay is equal in each country you are going to visit.

If France is not your main destination or if your trip doesn’t include France, the visa application must be lodged at the Embassy/Consulate of the Member State whose territory constitute your main destination.

The Schengen Convention
26 EU / EEE states have enforced the Schengen convention. A Schengen visa allows entry in these 26 states: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The U.K. and Ireland, though members of the EU, are not part of the “Schengen Space”.
Cyprus is not part of the “Schengen Space” either.
Therefore, a Schengen visa does not allow the holder to enter one of those 3 States, and a visa issued by one of those 3 States is not valid for entering the “Schengen space”.
