France and Malaysia celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties
The Embassy of France in Kuala Lumpur will take part to an exhibition organized by Wisma Putra at the National Museum to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its diplomatic ties with Malaysia. Exhibition is open to all from 8 May to 30 June 2017.
The Embassy of France is happy to present a selection of archive documents related to the history of the establishment of diplomatic ties between France and Malaysia.
Historical documents displayed at Muzium Negara come from the Archive Department of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. They have been carefully preserved over the last decades and stored for historical purposes.
A few of these documents are directly related to the very first days of Merdeka in 1957, such as the brochure and the booklet of Independence Day celebrations that were sent to the newly established French diplomatic mission in Kuala Lumpur. Letters of credence of the first French Ambassador to Malaysia also mark the initial footstep of our diplomatic ties with the newborn Federation of Malaysia. Memories of the past also arise from a diplomatic report written by the first French Ambassador to Malaysia after the presentation of his Letters of Credence to the King, followed by the response letter from the Agong.
Archives not only recall past achievements but are also a strong reminder of the strength and depth of our current bilateral ties with Malaysia. Pictures of bilateral meetings between French and Malaysian heads of State and government since the 1960’s illustrate the continuity of our political relationship. H.E Mr. François Hollande, President of the French Republic, made a State Visit to Malaysia last March 27-28th 2017.
Friendship between France and Malaysia is also based on our human and cultural ties. The Embassy of France is pleased to display pieces recalling the diversity of the French presence in Malaysia today, such as the Alliance Française or the successive French Art Film Festivals that took place in the country. Young students of the French High School in Kuala Lumpur, Lycée Henri Fauconnier, designed the logo of our 60th anniversary, representing two of our respective national symbols linked to each other.
